Samsung Fulfilling Nearly All Of Apple's IPhone 15 OLED Display Orders

Samsung appears to have secured a monopoly on the supply of iPhone 15 screens this year, after the China-based Bank of England failed to get official permission from Apple to mass-produce the necessary OLED screens again.

The BOE, which is supposed to supply OLED displays for the standard iPhone 15 and larger iPhone 15 Plus, was expecting conditional approval from Apple in March, but it was delayed after the manufacturer experienced light leakage problems behind the OLED display. The tablet and dock provide the necessary space for the TrueDepth camera and Face ID.

However, the problems got so deep that Apple eventually canceled the order and the Bank of England lost out on being one of the original suppliers. ETNews Korea reports that the amount originally allocated to the Bank of England has been transferred to Samsung Display.

LG Display, which supplies the OLED panels for both iPhone 15 Pro models, has only received conditional approval for the smaller iPhone 15 Pro, while official approval for the iPhone 15 Pro Max is still expected this month. This leaves Samsung as the sole current supplier of OLED displays for all four iPhone 15 models, and the production volume is much higher than originally planned.

As a result, Samsung reportedly increased its orders for materials and related parts, placing 20% more orders in September and October than in August alone.

Samsung offers low-temperature polycrystalline silicon thin-film transistor (TFT) panels for the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models, which means the more affordable devices will still lack ProMotion support and the always-on screen on Apple Pros.

Meanwhile, the high-end iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models use low-temperature polycrystalline OLED (LTPO) TFT panels. The LPTO panel has 120Hz ProMotion support and 1Hz refresh rate capability, allowing an inactive lock screen to remain visible without significantly impacting battery life.

Along with Dynamic Island coming to the iPhone 15‌ and iPhone 15 Plus, a rumor in February suggested that all iPhone 15 models could be equipped with more energy-efficient OLED display driver chips made from a 28-nanometer process, allowing for lower power consumption as a result. This can increase the overall battery life.

While the iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to have better battery life thanks to the inclusion of the faster A17 chip built into the new 3nm manufacturing process, it is not yet known whether the new display drivers have contributed to this increase. Battery life for Pro models. Energy efficiency.

As for the Bank of England, an anonymous display industry official told ETNews that it is still uncertain whether quality approvals from manufacturers will be available in 2023, and even if so, very few companies will leave this year given the advantage Samsung offers. 2023. This field. . .
