Samsung's Budget Phones Might Get A Taste Of The Flagship Experience Next Year
Samsung's entry-level Galaxy A phones will get OLED displays in 2024, and the next-generation Galaxy A15 could be the first.
A significant improvement over the LCD screens currently used in most low-cost phones, OLED screens offer better colors, higher refresh rates and better power efficiency.
A shift to OLED is likely due to falling prices of solid OLED panels.
A new report out of South Korea claims that Samsung's entry-level Galaxy phones could get a slimmer new screen next year.
According to The Elec (via Android Authority), the next-generation Samsung Galaxy A15 will have an OLED panel. If the report is correct, the Galaxy A15 will be Samsung's first entry-level offering to get these premium features.
Samsung already uses OLED displays in its slightly more expensive Galaxy A2X series of phones, starting with this year's Galaxy A24. However, the A1X model still uses an LCD screen, the latest of which is the Galaxy A14.
So what is the importance of OLED panels? Yes, they offer better color, contrast and viewing angles than LCD screens. They're also more energy efficient, which means your phone's battery will last longer And some OLED displays even have higher refresh rates, making movement and gaming smoother.
According to The Elec, the reason for the switch is that solid OLED panels have dropped in price. Thanks to this drop, manufacturers like Samsung can now use this premium display in their budget phones.
OEMs usually have to cut corners when making low-cost phones. This means using slower chips, weaker cameras, less RAM and LCD panels. But thanks to the drop in OLED screen prices, you can get a decent screen in a cheap Galaxy A phone in 2024.
Talking about the looks of the Galaxy A15, the device is said to sport a 6.4-inch display. That said, the display still lacks a neat center selfie camera, opting instead for Samsung's Infinity-U notch. Notches are a bit dated these days, but they're still a popular way to mount selfie cameras on cheap phones.
