- New rumors say that the Galaxy S24 Ultra display could be brighter than the Galaxy S23 Ultra, with a maximum brightness value of 750 nits.
- Also, the leak suggests that Samsung might ditch the iconic curved screen. The Galaxy S24 Ultra may opt for a flat screen instead.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra now has one of the best displays among flagship smartphones, rivaling only the brightness of the OPPO Find X6 Pro and the resolution of the Sony Xperia 1 V. With the Galaxy S24 series, we hope that Samsung can increase the . bar with significant updates. According to new rumors, it seems that Samsung wants to make the screen of the Galaxy S24 Ultra brighter and smoother.
According to Ice Universe, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will have a 6.78-inch display with a resolution of 3120 x 1440, an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a maximum brightness of 2500 nits. The aspect ratio was incorrectly listed as 19.5:5, but was clarified in a subsequent tweet.
There are no perfect losses at Ice Universe, so we advise caution with these speculative claims. If true, the Galaxy S24 Ultra's screen will be 750 nits brighter (at maximum brightness) than the Galaxy S23 Ultra's (1750 nits) and will match the Find X6 Pro's maximum brightness.
The leak doesn't mention it, but we've heard rumors that Samsung might use the M13 panel, which refers to the 13th generation of high-performance OLED panels. These panels are said to be thinner and more energy efficient.
The tweet also contains a mockup of what the Galaxy S24 Ultra will look like.
The biggest and most noticeable change we see in this model is that the Galaxy S24 Ultra may get rid of the curved screen. Instead, we could get a phone with a flat front like we've seen on the current Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus, but Samsung could keep the Ultra's sharp corners on the S24 Ultra, giving it a unique look.
We've heard similar claims from Digital Chat Station, suggesting that all Galaxy S24 series phones could have flat screens.
If true, it will be the first time in years that a Samsung flagship phone will ditch the curved screen. In fact, 2024 could be the year when Samsung's flagship lineup (or even its entire smartphone lineup) doesn't include phones with curved screens at all.
Samsung has enthusiastically embraced curved screens for nearly a decade with the Galaxy S (starting with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, which launched in 2015), and even the previous Note series went too far (Galaxy Note Edge, launched in 2014) and includes a curved screen.
Since then, curved screens have become a hallmark of "premium" and "luxury" smartphones, with the exception of Apple's iPhone, which is expected to have flat screens even in the iPhone series. save and use and everything fits the screen protector and case.
The rest of the smartphone industry is following Samsung's lead, with most of its Pro and Ultra smartphones sporting curved screens. It will be interesting to see how the industry and consumers react to Samsung's possible return to flat screens.
