DJ Juan Mendez, Techno Producer Known As Silent Servant, Has Died

Famous techno producer and DJ Juan Mendez, better known as Silent Servant , has died.

The cause of death is not yet known. He was about forty-five years old; however, his exact age is unknown.

According to The Guardian, Mendes' death was confirmed by his representative in the British press .

Born in Central America, Mendez grew up in Los Angeles to Cuban and Mexican parents.

The "Kissing the Ground" musician became a DJ in his teens. He eventually joined the Sandwell District collective, which represented new techno acts from 2002 to 2011. Mendez's influence on the Los Angeles techno genre was a major force.

"I was never a punk. never. Basically, I was a new wave nerd, "he said in an interview in 2019. - But I believed in punk rock, in a kind of obsessive dedication to what you do.

In 2006 he started producing and releasing his own music under the name Silent Servant. He released his debut album Negative Fascination in 2012, which included the songs "Temptation & Desire", "Invocation of Lust" and "Strange Attractor".

He has released several EPs, singles and collaborative projects in his career. After breaking up Sandwell District, Mendez formed his own label, Jealous God.

A few months ago, in November, he released his latest EP , In Memoriam, on Tresor Records. However, three days before his death he released his last recording, 'Sampler 1 B1 (Regis Edit)', a collaboration with British musician Regis.

Several musicians mourned Mendez's death on X, with artist Turk Dietrich calling him "a great talent and force in the world of electronic music."

"Her work as a silent servant and in Sandwell County was a huge inspiration for the Second Woman project," she tweeted. "This is a truly devastating loss."

"RIP Silent Servant," @sotajazz commented. “He used our song once in a mixtape, we never met or had any contact before or since. A few years later we were on the same account and I wanted to run for office, but he beat me to it. He immediately recognized me in the large, crowded room and came to greet me.
