UK Techno Veteran Kirk Degiorgio Announces Retirement From DJing
Veteran British techno DJ Kirk Degeorgia has announced his retirement from DJing at the age of 56 after it was revealed he has a pacemaker.
In a statement, Degeorgia said: "Pacemakers are a wonderful thing and I hope to feel better when things are in place, but they do impose certain lifestyle restrictions. Mainly it's about keeping a small distance from electromagnetic devices." .
He explained that when he went to the hospital, he found his heart rate was "very low" and was told he "needed an emergency pacemaker."
He said that he was worried about going into the DJ booth, near the monitors and wearing headphones. Because pacemakers work by transmitting electrical impulses, they prevent the user from getting close to electromagnetic devices.
"For the time being, I am canceling my upcoming concerts and announcing my retirement from DJing," he added. "I will concentrate on my work in the studio, where I can easily keep a safe distance from the monitors," he said.
Degiorgio has been a driving force behind the UK techno and electronic scene; As a DJ, he mixes techno and broken Detroit rhythms with funk, soul and jazz. As a producer, he has released many songs under his real name and under various aliases such as 'As One' and 'Blue Binary'. Performed on labels such as Far Out Recordings and B12. The artist also ventured into session music as part of The Beauty Room Collective.
He and Ben Sims founded the nightclub for minors "Machine" and the label of the same name.
DeGiorgia later said his career had been "one hell of a ride" and let Ben Sims keep the Cars party going. He also thanked Ipswich Hospital for their "potentially life-saving care and attention".

The pun in Indeep's classic boogie says it all. A small kidney stone really hurt me this weekend so I went to the ER to get some pain relief. immediately sent for examination.
After the kidney pain subsided, the pulse remained weak and I was hospitalized overnight.
The next day, the consultant confirmed that I urgently needed a pacemaker. After going through my story and a little general health talk, it hit home as I had a serious case of covid in early 2020.
You may remember my fainting spells back then and never feeling 100% due to constant fatigue and lack of energy.
Pacemakers are a wonderful thing and I hope that once they are fixed I will feel better. But they imposed certain restrictions on their way of life. It basically involves keeping a small distance from electromagnetic devices.
Headphones are a problem, and while many people with pacemakers frequent clubs and festivals with big speakers, as a DJ I'm often in booths and around big monitors.
That's why I'm canceling the next concert for the time being and announcing my retirement from DJing. I'll focus on my studio work, which I can handle easily by keeping a safe distance from the monitors. I've been DJing since my youth club days in the early 80's. I have been making people travel for 40 years. As far as older DJs go, I'm not old. I think DJs get better with age and should be kept in check as long as they can stay relevant for all ages.
So I retired at the age of 56. Not bad. It has been an incredible journey where I have traveled the world and met many wonderful people, some of whom have become very good friends. Ben [Sims] gives me his full blessing to continue with Car Party. They are in good hands. I thank all my agents for their professionalism, the promoters who believed in me and the clubbers who have danced over the years.
It's a turning point in music creation: a race with artificial intelligence to stay original, and it's a major obstacle to selling formats like vinyl. But I'm looking forward to continuing my work in the studio because this is probably my best year in the arena.
My love to you all, especially my wonderful wife for her support and the NHS staff at Ipswich Hospital for their potentially life-saving care and concern."
