Samsung Teases The Release Of Its New Galaxy Smartphones 'powered By AI'
- Samsung plans to unveil its new AI-powered phones on January 17.
- The company says it will "deliver a mobile experience fully powered by AI."
- More AI-based tools have been launched or are under development.
Samsung announced on Wednesday that it will launch its new Galaxy series later this month with a heavy focus on artificial intelligence.
"Galaxy AI is coming," says the company's short announcement video.
Samsung says the new series offers "an all-new AI-powered mobile experience."
"Despite all the attention on artificial intelligence, some of its best features are yet to be seen in mobile technology. Galaxy is poised to change that," Samsung wrote on its website in November.
"Galaxy AI is a comprehensive mobile AI experience powered by both Samsung-built device AI and cloud-based AI, thanks to our open collaboration with like-minded industry leaders," he said.
In its November post, Samsung introduced an AI-based feature: a live AI translator integrated into calls.
"Voice and text translations appear in real time as you speak," says Samsung, "making it as easy as turning on subtitles while the show is streaming and calling someone who speaks a different language."
Although it's not entirely clear what "powered by AI" means, there's no doubt that consumer technology has been heavily influenced by the generative AI boom that occurred last year after the release of OpenAI's ChatGPT.
In recent years, many mobile phone manufacturers such as Samsung and Apple have focused on improving the camera and display of new phones to attract customers. However, this focus may be shifting to artificial intelligence.
Research firm Counterpoint Research predicts that AI-enabled smartphones will account for 40% of the global smartphone market by 2027, led by Samsung and Qualcomm.
Other, perhaps less common, consumer AI tools are emerging or in the works. Human's popular wearable Ai Pin recently launched to mixed response. Sam Altman and iPhone designer Jony Ive are working on the first OpenAI tool.
