Samsung's entry into the smartphone AI fray is an unexpected and exciting twist. Why? That's because the company's new technology could solve a big problem with Galaxy phones: increased features.
I've been saying for years that Samsung's flagship phones are so packed with features and capabilities that I think you need a qualification to take advantage of them. Some things give me FOMO, like reviewing a Galaxy S phone, because I know there's some optimization or feature I missed in the settings menu.
Innovative features are obviously a good thing in the long run. It is the culmination of many years of feature development and software improvements. It's not just Samsung that struggles with this problem, that's the case with most smartphone makers, but Samsung has long been the de facto innovator in the industry (remember the Galaxy S5's "Smart Pause") trick that pauses the video when you move away from the screen? ).
It makes Samsung phones seem overloaded with features and capabilities that most users would never consider.

But the company's announcements about artificial intelligence in recent weeks show that it is aware of it and sees a solution. Check the latest language version for the new phone call translation feature, which may debut on the Galaxy S24.
“AI Live Translate Call will soon provide users of the latest Galaxy smartphones with a personal AI translator whenever they need it. Since it is integrated with native calling functions, the need to use third-party apps is eliminated,” reads the press release . Samsung wants to clean up the calling tool
. The new one won't be just another unused app that wanders around with Purgatory's features, because it's integrated directly into the Phone app itself.
The advice doesn't end there. In announcing the new Samsung Gauss creative AI model, the company said it "plans to apply creative AI to key functions that customers use every day." Speaking of future AI products, Samsung's press release talks about incorporating AI "where it matters most." Sure,
it's a little vague, but the Live Translate Call feature is a window into the company's AI plans, adding to an already bloated feature list. Integrated skills that are not his. If so, it's a much-needed tonic for the Galaxy smartphone line.
Otherwise, how can AI solve Samsung's feature scaling problem? It will likely detect when users are attempting to take hands-free selfies and provide a shutter countdown. Or the Galaxy S24 will learn which apps, photos and documents you want to keep in secure folders and automatically transfer future files there. Perhaps the AI could use its text-to-image conversion capabilities to quickly create wallpapers for your phone so you don't have to browse through thousands of useless wallpapers to find the right one.
Samsung has feature-rich phones that deserve praise. But this leaves the onus on users to figure it all out. If the Korean company takes this path and relies on artificial intelligence to make the lives of Galaxy users easier, it will be a huge step forward for Apple's dominant "work" segment.
