Samsung's New Galaxy FE Range Offers Flagship Features At A More Walletfriendly Price

Samsung has announced four new products in its Galaxy FE series. This slimmer lineup is a mid-cycle refresh that carries over most of the specifications of the flagship Galaxy S23 and Galaxy Tab S9 and removes some shortcuts to keep prices down. However, Samsung has for the first time added wireless headphones to its product lineup.

If you're not yet familiar with the Samsung FE brand, let us fill you in. FE stands for "Fan Edition" and is a suffix often attached to cheaper and slightly cheaper versions of flagship devices released at the start of the year. Samsung emphasizes that this is a feature requested by fans and the company took user feedback into account to offer this device at a slightly cheaper price.

So, let's move on to the device. We'll start with the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE. This is the third Galaxy FE phone since Samsung started the trend with the Galaxy S20 FE and took a year-long hiatus in 2022. The S23 FE uses a 6.4-inch 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, which is probably identical to the flagship. Model S23. Speaking of similarities, the S23 FE looks very similar to its more expensive sibling, with the new “floating camera” motif added to this year's flagship phone. Samsung appears to have replaced the S21 FE's plastic back with a glass back, making it the best Galaxy FE phone ever.

Elsewhere, Samsung is focusing on camera performance on the S23 FE, with the S23's flagship 50-megapixel main camera as well as the Nightography low-light shooting mode found on the cheaper model.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE will be available for £599 / $599 / AU$999 in what Samsung calls a range of "bold and modern colors", including mint, beige and graphite. It is expected to go on sale on December 8.

Samsung introduced its new tablet duo, introducing the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and Galaxy Tab S9+ FE. With displays of 10.9 inches and 12.4 inches respectively, the new tablets arrive just two months after the launch of the original Tab S9 model. Both tablets are equipped with LCD displays with variable refresh rates up to 90Hz and Vision Booster technology, which “improves outdoor visibility by optimizing color and contrast, especially in dark areas of the screen.”

Both models have IP68 water and dust resistance and are S-Pen compatible, although Samsung hasn't said whether this is included in the box. The Tab S9 FE range starts from £449 / $449 / US$749 in four trim levels; Mint, silver, grey, and lavender are available and available from October 11th.

We finally have a first for the Galaxy FE line, a new set of wireless headphones. The Galaxy Buds FE are the first new headphones launched by Samsung since the Galaxy Buds Pro 2 in August last year. The Buds FE are expected to offer “powerful bass that produces deep, rich sound,” as well as active noise cancellation and a three-mic system for clearer voice calls.

Samsung also claims that the Buds FE offer the longest battery life of any Galaxy Buds to date: 8.5 hours with ANC off or 6 hours with ANC playing, or up to 30 hours with the charging case. The FE Buds also come in three different ear tip sizes and two different wing tip sizes, so you can customize them to best fit your ears.

The Galaxy Buds FE are available in graphite or white and will be available from 11 October priced £99 / $100 / AU$199.
