DJ Minx's Queer Techno Artist Compilation Brings Back Women On Wax

This year DJ Minx is the main character. Detroit's "First Lady of Wax" will host queer techno artists during Pride Month.

After what seems like the worst month of pride, there's finally something to see in Metro Detroit (we're looking at you, Hamtramck).

DJ Minx Presents: Queendom Vol. 1, new hits from Shaw J. Wright, Nita Aviance, Sydney Blue, DJ Saint, Debbie Graham and Minx herself. It will be released on June 23 via Minx Women on the Wax.

Minx came out as a lesbian on Instagram in 2021, writing, "People are emotionally disturbed by the revelation, but the fear of not making it makes me cringe and shake my head." So I'm Minx, DJ, Producer, Mom, Partner, Lesbian, Friend.

In May, before leaving, he released his latest EP, The Throne on Higher Ground, his second house music project in a row. On August 11, he will perform at Charivari, another techno festival celebrating Detroit's contribution to techno and dance music.

Minx founded Women on Wax as a collective of female DJs and singers in Detroit in 1996 and launched it as an official label in 2001 under the direction of Detroit artist Muddiman. While Women on Wax has been dormant for the past few years, Queendom is relaunching the label to focus on underground artists and Detroit techno.

“The women on the wax records have been inactive for a while, but baaaak!” In a statement, Minx said, "For Pride 2023, we have music from some of my wackiest friends. Queendom, Volume One is a collection of songs lovingly written by five of our favorite LGBTQ+ artists. We are so excited. return!"

You can stream/buy Queendom here.
