In a sea of high-end smartphones that look and function alike, the recently launched Vivo X90 Pro stands out. Vivo has not only built on its camera heritage, but also created an outstanding design. But does the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 powered phone still stand a chance against Snapdragon Gen 2 powered smartphones? Let's find out.

Shocking beauty

With its sleek and curved design, the Vivo X90 Pro breaks away from the usual large and square shapes of modern smartphones. It is the epitome of elegance and sophistication that leaves a lasting impression on all who see it. The moment I held it in my hand, it brought back memories of the Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge and 9 Edge, a true testament to its ergonomic design.

Flip it over and the back is made of premium vegan leather with a large raised circular camera module that houses all the necessary sensors. Although this is not the first attempt at such a design, as the Asus Zenfone 2 had a similar design in 2015, it is hard to deny that the result is stunning. The innovative design language of the Vivo X90 Pro really stands out from the crowd.

Despite the weight of 214.85 grams, the Vivo X90 Pro is surprisingly light and its comfortable grip ensures that you will not feel any strain even after prolonged use. In conclusion, the Vivio X90 Pro is the epitome of design and functionality with luxurious aesthetics and unmatched ergonomics. But not at the expense of durability. An IP68 rating protects it from dust and water, while the screen is protected by Schott rival Xensation α Corning Gorilla Glass.

Show

With the Vivo X90 Pro, the emphasis is clearly on style and function. But when it comes to the display, Vivo has chosen to keep it simple yet effective. While it may not have the QHD+ resolution found on many flagship devices, the 6.78-inch curved-edge AMOLED panel still offers an impressive 2800x1260 pixel resolution. With a maximum brightness of 1,300 nits, the sunlight reading is good, but well ahead of the recently reviewed Samsung Galaxy S23+, which had a maximum brightness of 1,750 nits. Overall, the screen is bright with vibrant colors and supports HDR10+.

A photographer's delight

Vivo phones are all about cameras and photography. And for the X90 Pro, Vivo went all out. Or should I say, Vivo has taken mobile photography to the next level. The setup features a 1-inch 50MP IMX989 sensor along with a 12MP ultra-wide and 50MP, 2x telephoto.

The smartphone's 1-inch sensor size is not that common and deserves all the praise. This larger sensor captures more light for a deeper dynamic range and better low-light photography, and is powered by Vivo's in-house V2 image processing chip.

Most smartphones impress with their daytime photos. The same goes for the Vivo X90 Pro, as daylight captures fine detail with excellent color rendering. But that's not unusual, is it? Where it isn't is low light photography. The biggest problem when shooting at night or in low light conditions is holding still for 3-7 seconds. But I can use this phone to take quick photos in low light. In addition, the ergonomic design helps you to stay comfortable and not feel in your hand. Unlike many models that artificially brighten the scene in low light or at night, this one does not. In the afternoon, for example, the night sky looks dark. Focusing on subjects with a prime lens often resulted in images with bokeh effects, so I had to be a little careful when framing photos.

Images taken by default are slightly oversaturated, like Samsung's flagship models. But if you want your photos to look more natural, a special Zeiss setting in the main camera app captures natural color photos, similar to results captured on the latest iPhones.

And if you want to get closer to your subjects to capture finer details, you'll love the macro mode. Although it started by default, the results were inconsistent. I chose to burn it at one point and the captured details like dust particles and plant stems were amazing. There are also "Astro" and "Supermoon" photo modes for photographing the night sky.

I'm not a selfie stick, but the 32MP sensor is great for taking great photos in daylight, but I'd recommend using the rear camera for snaps at night.

Finally, the rear camera lens has a Zeiss T* coating that actively reduces glare from strong light sources.

performance

This is Vivo's flagship offering, and unlike the top-of-the-line products powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 2, this one has the MediaTek Dimensity 9200. It's MediaTek's flagship chip that delivers fast and smooth performance. Everything went well including video editing and even games like Asphalt 9, but it said it stuttered with some graphics heavy games. While the actual performance of MediaTek's flagship is nothing to complain about, it lags behind Qualcomm's flagship chips in benchmark tests.

FunTouch OS 13 user interface with app drawer is intuitive (based on Android 13). However, apart from the main Google services and apps, it also includes a lot of software like Snapchat, PhonePe, Uber Eats, Spotify and more. Fortunately, Vivo Cloud, V-AppStore, etc. Most of them can be deleted except some like

With its own 120W fast wired charger, the X90 Pro charges the 4,870mAh battery in just 30 minutes and easily lasts a day with heavy camera use. It also offers 50W wireless charging speed with Vivo Wireless Charger.
