Spring Silver: One Of DCists 12 Musicians And Bands To Check Out In 2024
Local group Spring Silver has compiled a list of 12 DCist musicians and bands to be discovered in 2024.
DCist features up-and-coming singers, songwriters, rappers and bands who embody the region's creativity and style. According to DCist editors, these artists are regularly releasing new music, bringing something unique to the local music scene, or building a loyal fan base.
Frontman K. Nkanza, who was called "bad punk music" on his Bandcamp page, referred to Spring Silver's genre as "queer metal" in a 2022 interview with The Washington Post.
“In this day and age, you can only create a genre,” says Nkanza. "I'll call it exotic metal and I'll call it/they core." it means. "It's something tangible." These are my pronouns. It's a brilliant, distinctive piece of rock that owes a lot to mid-2000s radio success, as well as deathcore and techno.
“When you write a song, you have to make some mind-boggling decisions,” KNkanza said of the group’s latest single, “Gold Star,” released last October (video below). "You have to decide the dynamics, tempo, tone, etc. While I don't think you can actually avoid this process of elimination (and I'm not trying to), I like the idea of having multiple versions of a song and including them all in the final version.
