Samsung S Pen Gets An Apple Pencilstyle Upgrade
The stylus pictured here might look like an Apple Pencil, but it's a very different device: it's a new version of Samsung's beloved S Pen, turning devices like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra into a friendly tablet for artists. and author.
The new version is called the S Pen Creator Edition and costs $99 / £99 / AU$162. As long as it's white, you can paint it any color you want.
In addition to the new colors, other new features are designed with comfort in mind and should provide a smooth writing and drawing experience on supported devices.
The two main changes to the S Pen Creator Edition are that it's bigger (it's wider than the standard S Pen, so it fits better in the hand) and it has a new stylus. But Samsung has removed a few things, including Air Command: This version of the S Pen doesn't have a battery, so Air Command won't work. Interestingly, Samsung also appears to have discontinued the S Pen Pro, which is no longer sold on its website.
The S Pen Creator Edition is exclusively for Galaxy smartphones, tablets and laptops that already support the S Pen; Galaxy Z Fold is not supported. Magnetically attached to the side of the device.
I wouldn't make too much fun of Apple's design, as I'm a two-time Apple Pencil owner and really appreciate its convenience. The S Pens I've tried aren't that great in comparison. Therefore, such a review is welcome from this point of view. Still, it's strange that Samsung would charge a higher price for an inferior product: as 9to5Google points out, the Tab S9's battery is much more expensive than the battery-powered S Pen, and therefore more expensive than the S Pen. Galaxy Z Fold5.
If you like it, it might be worth waiting a while, partly to see if Samsung drops it and partly to see what others think of it. Early reviews are mixed, with some users complaining about lag issues.
