Redmi's Lamborghini Phone (yes) Raises More Questions Than Answers
Xiaomi has introduced the Redmi K70 series and introduced three interesting Android phones. But the company announced the most surprising product collaboration in recent years.
Redmi took the opportunity to announce the partnership between it and supercar brand Lamborghini. The end result was the Redmi K70 Pro Automobili Lamborghini Squadra Corse.
The wrong partnership?
Considering Lamborghini makes multi-million dollar supercars and Redmi is a budget smartphone maker, this is a strange deal. So it's hard to keep a straight face when Lamborghini's motorsport manager says that Redmi shares the same goals, vision and DNA.
You can certainly argue that car phones are more desirable than anything else. That said, at least some people who buy car phones can't afford cars because they're fans of the automaker. You also have to accept that some people who buy a device with a car brand already own the car and want something related to that brand.
However, Redmi has always been a value-oriented brand, even within the Xiaomi family. Long a premium player, Lamborghini partnering with Xiaomi's flagship brand makes more sense. Redmi's focus on value contrasts with that of multi-billion dollar supercar brand Lamborghini.
Even outside of Xiaomi, I can think of more suitable partners for the Lambo phone, such as Samsung, Sony and Huawei. In fact, Lamborghini's previous partnership with smartphones seemed better. The company had earlier partnered with OPPO for premium special edition flagships OPPO Find X and OPPO Find X2 Pro.
However, this is not the first time Redmi has teamed up with a car brand. Earlier, the company launched a special edition of the Redmi K50 series phone in collaboration with the Mercedes F1 team. There was a tie-up with an F1 team, but overall, a partnership with Mercedes still seems preferable to this deal with Lamborghini.
At the same time, automotive partnerships in the field of smartphones are not just a combination of similar brands. These connections are often intended to emphasize superior performance and exceptional aesthetics. So the device may look like a supercar in smartphone form, but when you look under the hood, it is identical to the high-end K70 Pro.

Otherwise, the Redmi K70 Pro Automobili Lamborghini Squadra Corse has 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage space. The phone has an unusual design with an angular back cover in green or yellow color. In fact, Android official Aamir Siddiqui compared its appearance to luxury brand Vertu's problematic phones.

The rest of the Redmi K70 Pro Automobili Lamborghini Squadra Corse is the same as the K70 Pro. That means a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, a 5,000mAh battery with 120W wired charging, and a 6.67-inch QHD+ OLED display. You'll also find a fairly versatile triple rear camera setup here, with a 50MP f/1.6 main camera (LYT-800, 1/1.55in, OIS), a 50MP 2x portrait camera and a 12MP ultra-wide lens.
The standard Redmi K70 Pro costs 3,299 Yuan (~$466) in China, and up to 4,399 Yuan (~$621) for the 24GB/1TB model. Redmi has not announced the price of the Lamborghini model. Needless to say, you'll pay more than $621 for the special variant.
