OPPO Teases Satellite Connectivity In Find X7 Pro, But Global Launch Remains Uncertain

TL; Dr.

  • OPPO has announced that its next flagship, possibly the Find X7 Pro, will support satellite communication technologies.
  • However, details on timing, regional support and technology partners have not been released.
  • Although the Find X7 Pro is available worldwide, it can only support satellite communication technologies in certain regions.

Your phone's satellite connection is one of those rare features that you never expect to use, but when you do, you'll be glad you did. Android was supposed to revolutionize satellite communications with Snapdragon Satellite in the second half of 2023, but that project is on hold after Qualcomm ended its partnership with Iridium. There's still hope that we'll have satellite phones soon, bolstered by OPPO's announcement that its upcoming Find flagship will come with satellite capabilities.

OPPO announced that the new generation of Find flagships supports satellite communication technologies. Although this is not clearly mentioned, we assume that it is a feature of the OPPO Find X7 Pro.

OPPO's announcement didn't mention any other details regarding timing or regional support, so we're left to fill leaks and rumors with guesswork.

Since the Snapdragon Satellite has been discontinued, we don't know which technology partner OPPO has used to bring satellite communications to its device. The phone is said to come with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, so the technology will somehow be compatible with the Qualcomm SoC.

However, OPPO has not mentioned anything about the global launch of the phone. OPPO has decided to abandon the international launch of its previous flagship Find X6 Pro, and so far there is no Find.

While the telephone is common worldwide, satellite connectivity is a limited feature in the region. Global OEMs like Apple have targeted this feature in the US, while Snapdragon Satellite has targeted North America and Europe. In the context of the announcement being made in China and not the rest of the world, the satellite feature will likely be limited to China, even if the phone is available.

It remains to be seen if OPPO will bring this feature to a larger market with the Find X7 Pro or one of its sub-brands. Fingers crossed it works.
