Android Auto Not Responding? You're Not Alone

Anyone who has used Android Auto for more than a week knows that reliability does not exist in this world, as some features tend to fail without our intervention.

App updates are usually the culprit and do more harm than good. They interfere with functions that are often affected by voice commands.

A recent bug that appears to be widespread can cause Android Auto to become slow or unresponsive shortly after launch. The issue surfaced earlier this month when early users reported on Google forums that Android Auto was not responding on a fully updated device running the latest versions of the app.

It's unclear what exactly changed and what caused the problem with Android Auto, but all users reporting this behavior say that it's all happening on Xiaomi phones, sometimes on newer ones.

The strange behavior does not seem to be related to Android 14, as the problem also occurs in Android 13. Google's latest operating system has caused many problems with Android Auto, including Spotify crash and performance issues, including the same lag for some users. However, Android 14 is not to blame in this case as most of the users experience sudden freezes without updating their device.

The Xiaomi brand is the only common information, so users using Android Auto on a Google Pixel or Samsung phone should not face this problem.

There is no workaround, and since the problem is related to Xiaomi software, common solutions including clearing the cache and clearing app data will not restore Android Auto to work as expected.

It seems that the only way to get Android Auto working is to modify your phone, which is by no means a practical solution. Xiaomi has remained silent on the matter, so it is unclear whether the company is investigating.

Meanwhile, Google is working to improve Android Auto in several ways. The company is also developing a new option that will allow users to sync their mobile device's wallpaper with the Android Auto background. As a result, the search giant has finally given Android Auto users the ability to enable custom wallpapers, a feature that has become one of the most requested since the company introduced wallpaper support.

Work on this feature is still in the early stages, so it is unclear when Google will be able to offer it to users. However, the company is developing something in this direction and we hope that future Android Auto updates will include more evidence of this feature.

Meanwhile, if you encounter an error on your Xiaomi phone, you should seek help from Google and the phone manufacturer. Nothing seems to be working, but the Mountain View company says it needs more information from consumers, so it's contacting them by mail.
