After a leaked video showed OnePlus' first foldable phone in an "unlocked" state, OnePlus itself has confirmed that it will launch the device soon. And the name is not OnePlus V Fold, as previously thought, but OnePlus Open.
The company's CEO, Pete Lau, also said that sister brand Oppo will release a similar phone. It looks like they will be released in different regions.
We expect the OnePlus version to launch in the UK and Europe, for example, as Oppo has recently scaled back its work in this area.
As for the name OnePlus Unlock, we've already heard about it, with reports saying it could be a contender early this summer. Now we know for sure.
According to OnePlus, regardless of the banner, the phone will have an improved foldable design. The company has 35 patents on the hinge alone, which uses 31 fewer components than the Oppo Find N2. It's also smaller, with dimensions reduced by 37% to help the manufacturer compact the device.
It also "improves functionality," he said.
We haven't seen the phone yet, just a few details above, but a leaked video a few days ago purportedly shows the foldable phone in the hands of Indian film star Anushka Sharma.
There's a round camera on the back that matches previously released devices and is similar to the unit on the back of the OnePlus 11. We can't see this particular video for sure, but it's likely a camera Hasselblad.
Its debut in the wild, so to speak, suggests that we won't have to wait long to see the device fully revealed. This is also Lau's opinion.
The announcement was previously expected during an event on August 29, but apparently did not happen. We wouldn't be surprised if OnePlus announced a special event in the next couple of weeks: "OnePlus will soon launch its first foldable phone in select overseas markets," he says.
We will update when we have more details.
