Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus Brings This Premium Feature For Fraction Of The Price
Oppo's flagship Find X6 Pro has one of the best zoom cameras of any smartphone this year. A periscope lens gives you access to new angles that you normally can't reach with a prime or ultra-wide camera. However, this feature remains limited to flagship phones like the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Xiaomi 13 Pro and Oppo Find X6 Pro.
This is why you should be interested in the Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus. This is one of the few phones that offers a periscope camera for less than $660/55,000 Indian Rupees (INR).
The Reno 10 Pro Plus has a 64-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.5 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS), as well as a 50-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor. It supports 3x optical zoom and 120x digital zoom, and I've gotten impressive results up to 6x with usable images up to 30x. If you enjoy photographing pets, attending concerts, or taking architectural photos, a telescopic camera is a godsend.
Last week I went to Lucky Ali's concert in Delhi and took the Opp Reno 10 Pro Plus with me. I use the iPhone 14 Pro Max as my main phone, which only offers 3x optical zoom and up to 15x digital zoom - I was about to be disappointed. But I wasn't sure if the Reno would outperform the iPhone at digital zoom. Here is a comparison between the two:
There are three options here: First, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus offers up to 30x digital zoom, which rivals phones that cost 2.5 times as much. Secondly, a photo of a Renault with 30x zoom looks better on social media than an iPhone photo with 15x zoom. Thirdly, Oppo uses artificial intelligence to improve the image, which is evident in the details on the singer's face. The first image appears sharper (still lacks details) and can be used 30 times. I posted two photos side by side on my Instagram Stories and the Reno 10 Pro Plus received a vote of confidence.
It's surprising how effective the digital zoom is on the Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus at this price. By the way, it also takes great photos (examples below).
Edge detection, color and background blur are top notch. I think Oppo uses the same camera algorithm on the Reno 10 Pro Plus as the Find X6 Pro. Although the images aren't as detailed as the flagship, they're surprisingly good. The ultra-wide-angle camera is average at best.
Just talk to the camera, what about the rest of the phone?
The Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus features a 6.74-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with support for a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,400 nits peak brightness for HDR content on Amazon Prime. I like the bright screen offered here as well as the good stereo speakers. In addition, its slim design makes it comfortable to hold. At 194 grams, it's not light, but it's certainly one of the lightest periscope camera phones.
The Reno 10 Pro Plus is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset based on TSMC's 4nm process. It has 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. In daily use, I didn't experience any stuttering or lag. For gamers, the Reno 10 Pro Plus can run Ultra HD graphics and Ultra frame rates on BGMI. However, it should be noted that the phone tends to heat up after 30 minutes of gaming with HDR graphics and maximum frame rate.
The phone runs Color OS 13 based on Android 13. The only downside of this phone is that I get notifications from apps that I haven't touched even after setting up the phone, like: B. Game Center and App Market. Although I can easily turn it off, I don't like receiving random notifications throughout the day.
You also get a number of pre-installed non-Google apps and games, which some might call “popular apps.” However, apps like Facebook, Dailyhunt, PhonePe and Snapchat can be useful for some. On the other hand, I like the animations and multitasking in Color OS.
The Oppo Reno 10 Plus phone has a 5000mAh battery. In my experience, I got through a full day of moderate use, but struggled to get through a day where I took a lot of photos or actively used navigation. However, this wasn't a big problem as it can be charged from zero to full in just 25 minutes using a 100W SuperVOOC charger.
OPPO Reno 10 Pro Plus: How does it compare to the competition?
If you're looking for a gaming phone, the iQOO 11 offers better value for money, while the OnePlus 11 seems to be a more balanced package. However, if you want a good zoom camera but can't spend more than INR 55,000, this phone is for you.
The Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus phone offers a great display, comfortable hand feel, good performance, battery life and an excellent camera. You need to take some time to uninstall unused apps and turn off notifications from the App Store and Game Center. But at INR 54,999, the Reno 10 Pro Plus is a bargain.
