Essential Listening: The Best New Music Releases In August 2023 (week 4)

And holidays at the end of the year (except for Christmas, of course).

But it's not too bad because it's almost September which will bring new albums from Georgie Smith, James Blake, Romy, Olivia Rodrigo, Roisin Murphy and Micky. So looks great!

Until then, we have tons of new songs that will help us overcome our hangover!

This week we added names like Mathematic, Danger Mouse, Earl Sweat, Chemical Brothers, Mitsky, Hemlock Springs, James Blake, Shy FX, Hybrid Minds (read our latest interview here), Sven Vath and many more.

What to listen to: house and techno

Party Forever - Hannah Lang and HVRR

Hannah Lang is back again with an upbeat, energetic techno version with a touch of trance inspiration.

With the rave energy of Eddie Murphy's 80s song of the same name, we think Hannah has done it again here. The Scottish star is confident of building on his recent, unwavering success with songs like 'Good Love' and 'Be The One' and seems just a few hits away from headlining the biggest festivals.

Perfect for performances in small underground clubs, huge warehouses and big stages in arenas around the world. Every raver is sure to be hearing it at events for the next year or so.

What to Hear: Indie and Alternative

Gone Like A Stone - The Chemical Brothers starring Beck

Ultra-experimental legend and Grammy winner Beck once again lends his voice to The Chemical Brothers (as he did on Wide Open a few years ago), delivering eerie vocals over instrumentals that mix ambient sounds with sirens.

The song really comes to life as it builds up and then around 1:45 the beats and bass kick in. At this point in their career, it's notable that the duo are still popular, releasing new songs that date back to the late '80s and early '90s.

Cardiff fans are in luck: Alexandra Head will soon be playing alongside Hot Chip, Errol Alkan and many more. Get one of the last tickets below!

What you should hear: Drum and Bass and Forest

If Love Can Save You - Hybrid Minds with Venby

Described by Hybrid Minds' Matthew as "absolutely my favorite song we've ever written", If Love Can Save You is a warm bass track with piano notes and heartfelt vocals.

But if you pay attention to the lyrics, you realize that it's actually a silent song about suicide. A beautiful and personal game. No wonder Hybrid Minds and the audience that plays it love it so much.

If you fancy playing in front of an audience, you can catch Hybrid Minds performing across the UK over the next few months. Check out some of their upcoming shows below.

Mountain - Gotts Street Park Ft. ANNIE

Leeds trio Gotts Street Park have produced and written songs for various artists including Gartuy Uchi. Their debut album On the Inside was released in October and Mountains gives a glimpse of what it was like back then.

ENY, who you may know from her song Peng Black Girls , is a London-based rapper who was influenced by various genres including jazz and gospel. He presents smooth vocals and melancholic and brooding lyrics on this smooth neo-soul track.

If you like smooth, relaxing sounds that lift your spirits, keep an eye out for Gotts Street Park's October 13 debut date.
