Tecno Camon 20 Premier is the new mid-range segment. This phone faces tough competition, but stands out for its slim design and 108MP ultra-wide camera.
When you look at the Camon 20 Premier, the first thing that strikes you is its camera module, which sets it apart from the competition. It is large but designed to match the geometric pattern on the back. Thanks to the structured surface, the phone feels comfortable in the hand. It is one of the few phones that does not get fingerprints, smudges or dirt. Same color sides complete the look in blue (Serenity Blue) and black (Dark Welkin).
The Camon 20 Premier is comfortable to hold. I had no problem making the power button and volume rocker accessible. In fact, the power button is lower than expected and needs a bit of adjustment, but it's better than pushing it higher. Although this phone is not light at 202.5 grams, it is not heavy in the hand either. You get IP53 protection against dust and water, which is minimal. So be careful when using it in the rain.
On the front is a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. The screen-to-body ratio is 89.3%, which is pretty normal for the price. There's no support for HDR or Dolby Vision, but it offers Widevine L1 DRM certification to stream Netflix in Full HD. For media consumption is quite satisfactory. However, in direct sunlight I would like it to be brighter. For authentication, it has an in-display fingerprint sensor that works 10 times out of 10.
The Tecno Camon 20 Premier is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8050 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. In daily use, it offers smooth performance without any lag or lag in the user interface. It works well in multitasking mode and doesn't get hot even when you touch tap. The Tecno smartphone is powered by a 5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging that charges from 5% to 50% in less than 30 minutes. I didn't notice any unusual battery drain and it lasted a full day for four days.
This phone runs HiOS 13 based on Android 13. Inside there is a virus that cannot be removed like Aha Games. However, it is inferior to what Realme offers with its interface on the Realme 11 Pro Plus. HiOS 13 Tecno is cleaner than Realme's UI. The ads are reduced and you can turn off spam notifications with a few taps. This software provides an always-on display with Tecno settings. Other features include Game More, Parental Controls, Smart Panel and more. It is a versatile skin.
The Camon 20 Premier comes with a triple rear camera setup that includes a 50MP main camera along with a 108MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. The Tecno has built-in image stabilization that can supposedly smooth out shakes up to 5000 times per second, which is very useful for someone like me who has shaky hands.
The 50 MP sensor takes (mostly) detailed photos with good dynamic range during the day. If you look at the pixels, you'll notice that the dark areas don't have enough detail. If you need more detail, switch to 50MP mode, but at the cost of a slower recording speed. Night mode increases the brightness of the image to make it look attractive. However, night shots look good too. There's no telephoto lens here, and you get 2x digital zoom to capture distant subjects.
I love portrait shots for beautiful skin tones and textures. It does not soften the skin. You also get great themes and wallpapers. My only minor gripe is the lack of 2x or 3x zoom in portrait mode.
The 108 MP ultra-wide camera takes great photos. The default is 12 MP, which is usually enough. You can switch to the 108MP mode for more detail, but these shots are incredible. I like the contrast and dynamic range, but the image looks warm. You can also take great macro photos with this camera.
On the front, there is a 32MP selfie shooter with a flash at the top, although it is very thin. The images have a lot of detail, nice colors and skin tones.
With a starting price of 29,999 rupees, the Camon 20 Premier offers quite a lot. The Realme 11 Pro Plus is another luxury phone in this segment, but it has a confusing user interface. If you plan to play a lot of games, check out the Poco F5, which also offers a better display. The Tecno Camon 20 Premier offers a clean design, solid performance, a good camera and solid battery life, making it a solid phone.
