  • The first public beta of iOS 17 has been released, including new features not available in the original iOS 17 program.
  • Finally, it adds features like full screen screenshots and bilingual Siri that have been available on competing platforms for some time now.
  • Other new features include improved dual SIM support, improved call history, and more.

iOS runs on all iPhones and forms the basis of iPadOS, which runs on all iPads. Therefore, Apple thinks very carefully about the features that will be added to iOS, preferring to wait and test the feature before offering it to millions of users. At WWDC 2023, Apple announced iOS 17 and all the new features that come with it. After releasing the first public beta of iOS 17, Apple introduced more features that the company found unexpected, including scrolling screenshots and bilingual Siri.

As reported by TechCrush , Apple is introducing a few more new features with the release of the first public betas of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17.

Full Screen/Scroll Screenshots

For the first time, iPhone users can now take full-screen screenshots without resorting to hacking programs and solutions. In iOS 17, you can take a screenshot of a web page, document, or email by scrolling across the length of your iPhone.

You should take a screenshot as you normally would (simultaneously press and release the side button and the volume up button). Then tap the screenshot icon in the bottom left corner and then tap Full Screen to start taking a scrolling screenshot. When you're done, you can save the screenshot as an image or as a PDF.

It should be noted that Google only added scrolling screenshots to the Android platform in Android 12. Previously, OEMs had their own screenshot scrolling apps. Either way, it's good to see that iPhone users can enjoy scrolling screenshots.

Bilingual Siri

Thanks to Google Assistant and Alexa, Siri can now speak and understand two languages at once! Apple is adding Siri support for bilingual questions starting with English and Indian languages such as Hindi, Telugu, Punjabi, Kannada or Marathi.

We couldn't find any resources to indicate when other language pairs will be available for Siri.

Improved dual SIM support

iOS 17 can play better with dual SIM on iPhone. Users can now sort messages by SIM card, set individual ringtones for each SIM card, and select a SIM card when calling unknown numbers.

Extended call history

iOS 17 also expands the call history functionality. Previously, iPhones could only store the 100 most recent call history entries, which was very limited if you used your phone to make a lot of calls on different apps. Users can now view up to 2,000 calls, including Facetime and WhatsApp calls.

Sign in with your Apple ID phone number

In newer versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS Sonoma, users can sign in with their Apple ID on their phone instead of an email address.

Other changes

There are a few more changes:

  • iPad users can now filter messages by known and unknown senders.
  • Added transliteration support for Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
  • Added built-in Punjabi dictionary.

Please note that Apple will release stable versions of iOS 17 and other platforms later this year. Current public betas are expected to contain bugs. Therefore, we recommend that most users do not install them. Wait for the stable version of iOS 17.
