Who Is Luke Black? Serbias Eurovision Entry Competes With Moody Techno Track
The final of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place on May 13, and Serbia's Luke Black will be among the contestants competing for the title in Liverpool.
Indie techno singer Samo made it to the first semi-final with his song Mi Se Spava, which means "I fell asleep" in Serbian. Black sings in English and Serbian on the sad techno track, which includes lyrics like "I wanna sleep forever (S-Spam), it's better when I'm dreaming."
"We have to wake up to what is happening in the world and change something as humanity," he told the Serbian agency Nova Show.
Nicknamed "Serbian Pop Alchemist", Luke Black (real name Luka Ivanovic) is a 30-year-old techno-pop artist from Jaka, Serbia. His music is influenced by Queen, Elton John and Lady Gaga, while Samo Mi Se Spava is apparently inspired by Gaga's Mare Night Out.
With Black having over 250,000 monthly Spotify listeners and his Eurovision song having been streamed over two million times, he's sure to have thousands of fans cheering him on on Saturday night.
Swart will finally take the Eurovision stage, he appeared in the song contest in 2016, but in the end Sanja Vuvu ić Goodbye (Shelter) was chosen.
The Serbian version features "video game graphics and punchy bass" and was described by the Eurovision Live blog as "dark, surreal and hypnotic". Black's production includes a "massive alien capsule" and is said to feature "thrillingly mysterious choreography".
The Eurovision contestant lives in London after moving to the city to study music. She later worked in publishing as a graphic designer and had a dog named Zoe, whom she called "the smartest and cutest pug in the world".
Black's supporters are excited that he will be in the final, with one fan, Rachi, tweeting: “You did a great job Luke. Your performance was amazing and I'm sure Serbia (and the world) will be proud of you.
Another said: "You did a great job. I've watched your performance 10 times and I cringe every time."
