Movement Festival 2023: What To Know As The Techno Music World Converges On Detroit
The heartbeat of techno music still resonates in Detroit, and this weekend it will reverberate throughout the city.
The Memorial Day venue represents one of Detroit's most distinctive cultural traditions, as the electronic music festival Movement takes over Hart Plaza and after-work parties are held for revelers across the city.
Running from Saturday to Monday, the movement is packed with the biggest line-up of over 120 performers across six stages. Weekend tickets and day tickets are available.

This is the 22nd edition of Detroit's Memorial Day Weekend Techno Festival and the 16th organized by Detroit event organizer Paxhau, which hosted the festival in 2006.
Here is an overview:
First female character
Belgian DJ-producer Charlotte de Wit began to gain international fame in 2018 when she debuted in the underground scene of Movement. This year, she'll headline the main stage on Sunday, often during the festival's peak days, and become the first woman to headline the Detroit techno festival since it began in 2000.
DeWitt arrives in Detroit after recording new EP "Overdrive" and single "High Street." He will play at Hart Plaza Bowl on Sunday at 10:30 pm.
Two veteran British duos headline: Basement Jax, of 1999 Red Alert fame, will take to the main stage on Saturday, and the festival will close on Monday with Underworld, where The Movement will finally play after being invited. band.. due to closure due to COVID-19.
Skrillex canceled last year's festival to finally make up for lost time on Monday at 8pm to finish up some album work, Quest for Fire and Too Close, released in February.
Saturday's highlights include Three 6 Mafia and Dead Zeds, while Caribou, Green Velvet and Defected Records premiere in a show directed by Kevin Saunderson on Sunday. Monday John Summit, Cascade Redux and more. Presented by Dom Dola
Detroit shows its muscles
The movement has made a name for itself by producing the talent of local Detroit DJs as well as world-renowned tastemakers, who remain the spiritual core of the event.
Techno godfather Juan Atkins will take the main stage Sunday under Cybotron, revisiting his work that sparked Detroit's electronic music revolution in the early 1980s. Techno house pioneer Kevin Sanderson and his son Dantiz will collaborate on the Stargate stage the same evening.
Carl Craig and John Dixon will wrap up the Detroit Love Showcase on Saturday, which will feature locals Moodymann, Octave One, DJ Holographic and more on the Stargate stage.
Eddie Fowlkes and Robert Hood will take the main stage on Sunday, while other top Detroit acts of the weekend include Aux 88, Seth Troxler, Kash Doll, Stacey (Hotwaxx) Hale, Suburban Knight and Sheefy McFly.
Technology Award
Honoring Artists, celebrating the key figures of Detroit's tech boom, will return to the Hart Plaza basement for a second year, this time with an expanded exhibit dedicated to artists like Delano. Smith, Mike Huckabee, Mike Banks, Kelly. Hand and Dr.
2023 Movement regulars Amy Fisher Price and Kelly Golden will headline "Detroit Techno City," a multimedia installation near the Pyramid Stage, while hardware company Sweetwater will showcase a music technology studio near the Pyramid Stage. Detroit.
"God Says 'Um Drum Machine' On The Big Screen"
After opening at a screening hosted by Big Sean and the Fripp Film Festival in Detroit last August, the techno-animated documentary will have its second local screening Friday at the Michigan Science Center at 7 p.m. A meeting with the directors will be held after the screening of the film.
Tickets for Friday's screening of the Tribeca-sanctioned doc are $20 and can be purchased through Eventbrite.
Directed by Christian Hill, God Said Give Me Drum Machine captures the nature and drama of Detroit's burgeoning '80s techno scene with rare footage and performances by many of the genre's pioneers.
The film crew will also host a documentary workshop at the Detroit History Museum on Saturday at 1 p.m.
