Movement Festival 2023: What To Know As The Techno Music World Converges On Detroit

The heartbeat of techno music still resonates in Detroit, and this weekend it will reverberate throughout the city.

The Memorial Day venue represents one of Detroit's most distinctive cultural traditions, as the electronic music festival Movement takes over Hart Plaza and after-work parties are held for revelers across the city.

Running from Saturday to Monday, the movement is packed with the biggest line-up of over 120 performers across six stages. Weekend tickets and day tickets are available.

Detroit shows its muscles

The movement has made a name for itself by producing the talent of local Detroit DJs as well as world-renowned tastemakers, who remain the spiritual core of the event.

Techno godfather Juan Atkins will take the main stage Sunday under Cybotron, revisiting his work that sparked Detroit's electronic music revolution in the early 1980s. Techno house pioneer Kevin Sanderson and his son Dantiz will collaborate on the Stargate stage the same evening.
